ha, Mrilyn, I know just what you mean. I got this gallon-sized bag stuffed full of tangled bunka at a second hand store for $5; I’m sure they didn’t know what they had. There were many other quart-sized bags with various sewing notions and embroidery thingies that were way more $$. Clearly it was someone’s estate, and a lot of it was just junk… unless one is a packrat and/or artist. Of course that made me think of all *my* stuff…
The colors are very satisfying! Bunka is a rayon thread used in punch needle embroidery, originating in Japan. One of its funner characteristics is that it can be unraveled, producing a springy, kinky thread. Miniaturists find all sorts of uses for it. I find the unravelling as therapeutic as popping bubble wrap :) Here’s the full story: http://unitedbunkaassociation.org/what-is-bunka/

Thanks for the link Nancy! Learning new things every day.
The A – Z is a perfect way to downtime the brain and just appreciate the beautiful in life. Pressure is an insidious thing and stealer of all things creative. It’s even more damaging when you put it on yourself. Definitely be kind to yourself, coming from someone who has been on a self imposed guilt party for the last five months :0)
That’s a great description, Carol! It’s challenging, but not too hard, a combination my brain quite likes :)
And, do you know, we’ve all been at your party these last few long months. It’s good to see you again.
How did you get my box of embroidery thread?
How did you get my box of bunka?
Jumble it might be but so pretty. I LOVE sorting out stuff like mail it to me. Marilyn

One person’s junka is another person’s bunka. Great haul, well worth $5!
HAH! Very funny, ShelleyB :D
But a colourful jumble at that. I’ve always wondered what bunka is… some kind of chord, it looks like.
Wa ha, my poor English. Should be cord, I think.
