Native poppy season is well underway here in Northern California. One of my art supply stockists (thank you, Britain, for that great word) was selling Letraset markers for $0.67 (!) so I laid in a fresh supply of flower colors. The 3/16-inch (4–5mm) petals — four per flower — are punched from inexpensive 20 lb. paper. Stamens are a thin strip of paper tinted deep yellow, cut into a fine fringe and rolled around the stem tips. I’m using 28-gauge paper-wrapped wire cut to approximately .75 to 1.25-inch (19–31mm) lengths.
Here’s the first clump of poppies in with the lavender. The color with these markers when dry is a bit muted, so I’m going to mix in some Sharpie for vibrancy in subsequent propagation. I’m using small mounds of preserved moss to suggest their foliage, as I did on the Sea House Warming Hut living roof. There is continuity in Nancyland :)
The yummy bench is from Peter Tucker, found at the Good Sam show a few years back.
You are welcome to come sit and watch the gardens grow :)
I am in love with the poppies. Might need to make a trip to the art supply store tomorrow!
Thanks, Kat!
I am too :) They are such happy things.
You have been busy! Lots of little changes to your blog layout as well as armfuls of flowers.
The garden looks lovely! Is that a spinning wheel in the background?
It is a spinning wheel, but will be relegated to the symbolic basement. It’s nice, but not exquisite :) Like many others, I am in the the throes of Spring reinvention. I’m so happy to be flower making. Now that the poppies are on board, and some work deadlines met, I’ll be able to focus on the roof, windows and lighting. And tie silk upholstery. And what to do with my life.
Now that’s a welcome sight on our snowy, dreary New England ‘spring’ day. Thank you!
You’re most welcome! Glad to spark a bit of cheer.
I’m with Christina above, we had light snow this morning. Our daffodils and flowering trees must be so confused. Your little garden is nice and springy.
Thanks, Bennie. Hmmm. I wonder how hard it is to make miniature daffodils? I love those flowers!
I don’t know if it’s intentional but you seem to be building with the seasons. Your HBS build had such lovely autumnal colours, this one is flooded with Spring colour. Hope you build a Summer one too =0) It looks gorgeous by the way. I’m diggin’ all of the fab fauna and the Peter Tucker bench is so perfect in that spot
I do try and ‘fix’ a season in my builds, more as a way to narrow down the landscaping choices and to suggest what other accessories and furniture might make sense. So glad you like it! And I agree, the Peter Tucker bench has finally found its spot :)
Oh my goodness! This makes me so happy- your mini garden is looking better and better!
P.S. We must be on the same wavelength again because I’ve been making poppies for my felt flower shop! Though I only made red ones, so now I will look up other kinds! :)
Half of my room is covered in miniature projects and the other have is being taken over by baskets of flowers. Ha!
Thank you, Blake! Gardens have a way of doing that, happy and better and better :)
There is a poppy called “Danish Flag” that is one of my favorites. So many from which to choose.
Poppies and Gerbera Daisies are my favorite! You did a great job. I love the Peter Tucker bench!
Cyd, thanks! Gerberas would be a fun flower to make!
