Something clicked with “I watched it evolve from beginning to end!” Sharing our work as we did has created a genuinely supportive community for both sharers and viewers, something I value. For me, there are elements of vulnerability and trust in posting imperfect works-in-progress, in letting you see unedited glimpses of my messy studio, my naked un-manicured fingers. One of my motivations is to spark your creativity, as a maker or a viewer. Inspiring appreciation, fostering delight, is another. So thank you for dropping by. Really truly.
The light today is crazy, brilliantly sunny then dark and gray. But I was glad to arrive at this point in the new build:
I got enough pieces from a second kit to be able to get a basic (and square) frame up, and determine with only minor maths the additional posts and casings that need to be built. Starting with the porch support post (finally).
Next, I’ll knock it all flat again to finish the interiors and exterior cladding, then reassemble with omg glue.

I think it’s lovely that your work has been recognized. I also think it’s rather lovely that HBS sponsors these “contests” as it not only promotes the hobby, but raises the standard of craftsmanship. It has been a privilege to have seen some of the very fine work this year from those competing and those doing the build-along.
I totally agree, BW. It appears the HBS’s Blogger Outreach program will continue this year, with some changes, as yet unannounced. It’s exciting!

The ‘I’ll show you mine if you show me yours’ in all of this mini sharing makes us a little more approachable, less guarded, and able to truly connect in a way that is unique only to those obsessed with this passion. Thanks, Jodi, It was a stumbling block for me for some time, self-critical procrastinating perfectionist that I was :) Now it just feels very humble and honest, and a lot of people connect, and •that* is very freeing :)
I was flattered to see my post featured. It truly was inspiring to watch you build this week to week. I’m working on something myself but get stuck worrying if it will come out ‘right’ or look wrong, etc. I tend to be a procrastinator and this ‘perfection’ holds me up. I’ll keep plugging away and maybe, eventually, shoot you a photo of my project.
Bennie, I think you said something we all think and appreciate, that to watch another person’s progress and process is to be invited in and welcomed to the party, as well as the nitty gritty of seeing something to completion. I’d be honored to see what you’re working on :)
